CAN YOU SEE THE REPAIRS????

This Spainish Lambretta 200 was bought new in the early 80’s and the customers kept it ever since. And he’s also got more Scooters in his collection than we have – lucky chap!

The casing had been repaired before, with what looks like a big end bearing failure. And of course it wasn’t repaired correctly so needed the old weld grinding out and filling in, then grinding to shape on the outside. Then the inside needed milling to clean where the crank runs and where the mag housing fits and the mag gasket face cleaned off.

As with any welding to a casing the cylinder base face needed facing off true.

There was two gearbox threads gone, easily repaired with MB longer threaded studs.

One thread was gone in the side casing so I fitted a MB 6mm insert and faced the case off. The main underneath 8mm thread was totally gone so I fitted an over sized MB thread insert.

And………. the casting area where the spare wheel jack stand fits was missing – so that was replaced with a donor.

Once all this work was done, the welded areas were disguised so they blended in with the corroded patina of the 40 year old casing.

And as usual it was bead blasted, aqua blasted and cleaned up ready for its rebuild.

Without a fully kitted workshop with all our engineering equipment – you can’t do these repairs.
