I DO LIKE A GOOD CRACK

It’s such a breath of fresh air when a perfect casing comes in, degreased and all studs removed. Well perfect apart from a bloody great big hole in it, oh and a few cracks!

This was an interesting one and just wanted to do it – for fun!

It was nearly in and out in one day but got a visit from my old mate Maximus Decimus Meridius who knocked on the fettling room door and stopped me.

Seems to be a week of old friends calling. Ian called who Ive known since 85, I’ve done a full restoration, a separate engine and did the tin ware for another restoration. Steve called who I did a Vespa engine in the 90s and won shows and was front cover of Scootering and he’s back doing a Rossa Yamaha and I’ve been doing some engineering.

Then my old mate Mr Miller walked in, Ive known Rob since the early 90’s when I did his race engines. And I’ve tuned and done his old ball Scooters ever since and he’s won shows as well. Whilst Rob was there Phatty Arbuckle called. I first did an engine for him in 85 and I’m doing his Vespa motor at the moment.

Then Maximus, Ive know him from the early 90’s and have done a few engines, lots of restoration work and his Scooters have won shows as well and I’ve tuned and engineered loads of stuff for him and now were still at it with another engine and more engineering.

These are all old mates, we all know each other and come from all parts of the Uk but we always tend to meet up and tell stories and have fun – they’ve never got out of Scootering and use us for most of the parts they need. 

And its like this most weeks, people calling and stopping me for a chat and cast an eye over parts to be repaired so things do get delayed!

So back to the motor – the customer emailed last week can I do it! Answer was yes, it turned up and I got on with it.

Came out okay me thinks!

Remember if you haven’t got all the equipment we have and the knowledge you can’t mend these things something – proper like!
